Is there a better sweater than an Aran sweater?

At Aine Creations, we certainly don't think so! These sweaters emerged from villages on the Aran Islands located on the west coast of Ireland - a coastline at the mercy of the cold and stormy north Atlantic. Worn traditionally by fishermen, these hard-working sweaters feature distinctive patterns that tell the story of life on this rugged coast. The intricate and deep patterns not only give the sweater a unique texture but add warmth too!

Sadly, most Aran sweaters are machine-knit these days even in Ireland...but not at Aine Creations! We hand-knit every one of our sweaters - this gives the pattern more depth and helps the sweater hold its shape longer and better than any machine-knit sweater.

Many of our sweaters are made of the traditional 100% wool, but we realize some are sensitive to wool so we make our hand-knit sweaters in a variety of yarns: 100% wool, as well as, wool blends for the only-a-little-sensitive and acrylic for the really sensitive.

Our Aran sweaters are stylish and practical and perfect whether you're looking for added warmth wandering around the wilds on a snowy day, running errands in a Spring drizzle or walking to brunch on a crisp Fall day.
